1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service form a binding agreement between you and Current Jiu Jitsu Ltd. They apply when you browse this website, send an enquiry, register for a class, enrol a child in a camp, attend open mat, book a private lesson or otherwise use the services of the hall. By taking any of those steps you accept these terms in full.

If you do not accept these terms, please do not register for a programme and do not attend a session. You may still browse the public pages of the website, but the training relationship will not begin until you have accepted the terms at registration.

These terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how personal information is handled. Where the two documents touch on the same subject, the Privacy Policy controls for the privacy question and these terms control for the commercial and conduct question.

2. The company and the hall

The services are provided by Current Jiu Jitsu Ltd., a company registered in Canada. The training hall is located at 6800 Kitimat Road, MISSISSAUGA - L5N 5M1, Canada (CA). Our contact email address is training@currentjiujitsu.lat and our contact telephone number is +16813371229.

The hall is a working training space. We may close the floor for cleaning, maintenance, a competition trip, a public holiday or an emergency, and we will give as much notice as the situation allows. Where a closure removes a paid session, the session is credited to the member account or rescheduled under section 7.

We may describe the hall as a grappling academy, a jiu jitsu hall or a training room. Those words all refer to the same place and the same services. No description on the website creates a guarantee that a particular coach, session time or programme will remain available indefinitely.

3. Eligibility and age

Adult programmes are open to anyone aged sixteen or older who can give informed consent to a contact sport. A person aged sixteen or seventeen may train in an adult fundamentals class only with written guardian consent and only after a coach has assessed the pairing. Open mat is restricted to members aged eighteen or older.

Youth programmes are open to children aged seven to thirteen in the camp format and to children aged eight to fifteen in the weekly youth class. A child must be registered by a parent or legal guardian who accepts these terms on the child behalf.

We may decline a registration or end a membership where we believe a person cannot participate safely, where an identity or age has been misrepresented, or where a required consent cannot be verified. A declined registration is refunded in full for any amount paid in advance.

4. Registration and accounts

Registration is completed at the hall desk or through a booking channel that we name. The person registering must provide accurate information, including a working email address, a telephone number and an emergency contact. A member is responsible for keeping those details current and for telling the desk when an emergency contact changes.

Each member record belongs to one person. A member must not share a login, book a session in another member name, or allow another person to train on a membership. Sharing a record or a membership can lead to suspension under section 22.

You are responsible for activity carried out under your account or booking. If you believe that a booking has been made without your authority, tell us at once so that the booking can be reviewed and the record secured.

5. Booking classes and camps

Class places are limited by the size of the mat and by the number of lanes. A booking is confirmed only when you receive a confirmation from the hall or from the booking channel we use. An enquiry through the contact form is not a booking and does not reserve a place.

Camp places are limited to twenty-four children per week. A camp booking is complete when the fee has been paid and the guardian declaration has been signed. A place held without payment expires after forty-eight hours and may be released to another family.

Private lessons are arranged directly with a coach and are subject to availability. A private lesson is confirmed when the time is agreed in writing and, for a first session, when the fee has been paid. A member may reschedule a private lesson without charge up to twenty-four hours before the start time.

6. Fees and payment

Current fees for each programme are published at the hall desk and are confirmed at registration. Fees are stated in Canadian dollars unless another currency is expressly agreed in writing. We may change a fee for a future period, and we will give at least thirty days of notice before a change takes effect for an existing member.

Membership fees are payable in advance on the cycle stated at registration, either monthly or in a block. Camp and private lesson fees are payable in full before the session. A payment that fails is retried once, after which the booking may be released and the member contacted.

Where a fee is overdue by more than fourteen days and no arrangement has been agreed, we may suspend training access until the account is settled. A suspension for overdue fees does not cancel the membership, and the fees continue to accrue under the original schedule.

7. Cancellation and refunds

A member may cancel a class booking up to twelve hours before the session without charge. A cancellation inside twelve hours is treated as attended, because the lane and the pairing have already been held.

A camp booking may be cancelled for a full refund up to fourteen days before the first camp day. A cancellation between fourteen and three days before the camp receives a credit equal to half the fee. A cancellation inside three days receives no refund, although a place may be offered to another family at our discretion.

A private lesson cancelled with less than twenty-four hours of notice is treated as taken. A private lesson cancelled by the hall is rescheduled or refunded in full. Membership fees are not refundable for a period already started, except where the hall closes for a reason within our control for more than fourteen consecutive days, in which case the unused portion is credited.

8. Attendance and punctuality

Please arrive ten minutes before a session so that you can change, tape your fingers if needed and join the warm up from the start. A person who arrives more than fifteen minutes late may be asked to observe rather than join, because entering a live drill lane after the warm up raises the risk of injury.

Attendance is recorded for two reasons: to support belt review evidence and to know who was on the floor if an incident occurs. A member who must leave early should tell the coach before the session so that the departure is noted.

A member who is ill, feverish or recovering from a skin infection should stay home. Mat space is held for a member who is absent for a short illness, and a medical note is not required for an absence of a single week.

9. Conduct on the mat

Training is a cooperative activity. Members are expected to treat partners with respect, to tap early when a submission is locked, and to release a submission immediately when a partner taps or a coach calls a stop. Reckless application of a technique, striking outside the agreed rules of the drill, and any deliberate attempt to injure a partner are grounds for immediate removal from the floor.

Coaches control pairing. A member must not refuse a partner on the basis of a protected characteristic, and must not pull a partner into a round that is beyond the partner stated experience without the coach approval. Rank does not confer the right to train through a partner resistance in a way that risks injury.

Bullying, harassment, discriminatory language, unwanted physical contact outside the technique being drilled, and the use of the hall to settle a personal dispute are prohibited. A concern can be raised with any coach or by email to training@currentjiujitsu.lat, and it will be handled confidentially to the extent the investigation allows.

10. Safety and assumption of risk

Grappling is a physical contact activity. It involves falling, being held down, being lifted and being submitted. Bruises, strains, joint soreness and, in rarer cases, more serious injury are possible even when everyone follows the rules. By training at the hall you acknowledge that you understand the nature of the activity and that you accept the ordinary risks that come with it.

You agree to follow the instructions of a coach, to stop when asked, to report an injury promptly, and to leave the mat if you are dizzy, short of breath or in pain. You agree not to train under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or any substance that affects coordination or judgement.

The hall maintains liability insurance appropriate to the activity. That insurance does not replace personal medical cover, and we recommend that every member has access to health care and understands their own coverage before starting.

11. Health declarations

You agree to disclose a condition that could affect your safety or the safety of a partner, including a heart condition, a seizure disorder, a pregnancy, a recent surgery, a joint injury that is still healing, or a skin infection. The disclosure is used only by the coaches who teach your sessions and is handled under the Privacy Policy.

You agree to update the disclosure when a condition changes. A member returning from an injury should tell the coach before the first session back so that the drills can be adjusted for the first two weeks.

Where a coach believes that training would put a member or a partner at risk, the coach may ask the member to sit out a round, to modify a drill, or to obtain a written clearance before returning. The decision is a safety decision and is not a judgement about the member ability.

12. Equipment and dress code

A gi, a rash guard and shorts are all acceptable for most sessions. The programme page states which format applies. For gi sessions the gi must be clean, trimmed to fit and free of rips at the lapel or sleeve. For no gi sessions a rash guard and shorts without pockets, zips or exposed buckles are required.

Fingernails and toenails must be short and clean. Jewellery, watches, hard hair clips and anything that could catch a finger must be removed before stepping onto the mat. Long hair should be tied back. Feet are washed and footwear is worn off the mat.

Loaner gis are available for the first month of a new membership and during camps. A loaner gi must be returned clean on the next session. A gi that is not returned within a week may be charged at the replacement rate stated at the desk.

13. Youth members and guardians

A guardian who registers a child accepts these terms on the child behalf, agrees to keep the contact and health details current, and agrees to collect the child promptly at the end of a session. A child who has not been collected within fifteen minutes of the end of a camp day will be supervised at the desk while the guardian is contacted.

The guardian is responsible for telling the coach about a change in the child routine, a medical event, or a reason the child should not train on a given day. A guardian may watch from the viewing bench and should not coach from the bench during a session.

A guardian may withdraw a child from a programme at any time. Fees are adjusted under section 7. A guardian who has a concern about the conduct of another child or a coach should raise it with the lead youth coach rather than with the other family on the floor.

14. Belt review and promotion

Belt promotion is at the discretion of the coaching team. It is based on the review record, the quality of live rounds, attendance over a meaningful period and the ability to explain the positions being tested. Attendance alone does not earn a belt, and a paid private lesson does not accelerate a review.

Review weeks are published in advance. A member who cannot attend a review week may request an alternative slot, and the request will be accommodated where a coach and a partner are available. A review that is missed without notice is rescheduled to the next review cycle.

A belt decision is final within the hall. A member who disagrees with a decision may ask for the written record and discuss the two positions that were marked for further work. Promotion of another member is not open for discussion, and public debate about a rank is not permitted on the floor.

15. Visiting members and guests

A visiting member from another hall is welcome on open mat. A visitor must introduce themselves at the desk, sign the attendance sheet and show proof of current training at a recognised hall. A visitor under eighteen must be accompanied by a guardian or present a written guardian consent.

A visitor is bound by these terms while on the premises, including the conduct, safety and dress rules. A visitor who repeatedly ignores the edge rules or trains recklessly may be refused entry in future. A first visit is free; a repeat visitor who trains regularly is asked to join as a member.

A guest who is not training may wait on the viewing bench. A guest must not walk onto the mat in street shoes or hand a child over the mat edge during a live round.

16. Photography and media

Photographs and short video may be taken during public sessions under the consent rules in the Privacy Policy. A member who does not want to appear in a publishable image should tell the coach at registration or at the start of a session, and the request will be recorded.

Members may take personal photographs of their own training with the agreement of the partners in the frame. A member must not publish footage of another member in a way that identifies them without that member agreement, and must not record a private lesson without the coach permission.

The hall name, the hall logo and photographs taken by a coach during a session may not be used by a third party to promote an unrelated business without written permission from Current Jiu Jitsu Ltd.

17. Hall property and cleaning

Mat surfaces are cleaned before and after every session, and the taped seams are inspected daily. Members are asked to wipe down a section after a nosebleed or a spill, to use the bins provided for tape and plasters, and to leave the changing area as they found it.

Personal belongings are the responsibility of the member. A locker may be used during a session and must be emptied at the end of the day. Items left on the shelf for more than thirty days may be donated or discarded, and a valuable item found on the floor will be held at the desk and logged.

A member or guest is responsible for damage caused by deliberate misuse of hall property, including a torn mat, a broken door or a damaged locker. Ordinary wear from training is not charged.

18. Website use and acceptable conduct

This website is provided for information and enquiry. You may view the pages, print a page for personal use and share a link with another person. You may not scrape the site at a rate that degrades service, attempt to gain unauthorised access to the server, inject malicious code, or use the contact form to send unsolicited commercial messages.

The contact form prepares a message in your own email application. You are responsible for the content of that message and for ensuring that it does not contain unlawful material, a threat, or a file that could harm the recipient.

We may block an address or an account that abuses the site, and we may report a serious attack to the hosting provider and to the relevant authority where the law requires it.

19. Intellectual property

The text, layout, styling and code of this website belong to Current Jiu Jitsu Ltd. and are protected by copyright. The name Current Jiu Jitsu Ltd., the hall identity and the training materials used in class are the property of the company. You may not copy the site for a competing business, republish the class materials, or use the company name in a way that suggests a partnership that does not exist.

A member may use the name of the hall to describe their own training on a personal profile, provided the description is accurate and does not imply that the member speaks for the company. A coach who writes about the method in public should credit the hall where the material originated.

Techniques and positions in grappling are part of a shared tradition and are not owned by any one hall. The intellectual property right asserted here covers our expression, our written materials and our identity, not the underlying sport.

20. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Current Jiu Jitsu Ltd. is not liable for an indirect or consequential loss, a loss of profit or a loss of opportunity arising from the use of this website or from a training relationship. Our total liability for a claim connected to a paid service is limited to the fee paid for the service in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law. The limitation above operates only to the extent that the law allows.

The website is provided with reasonable care, but we do not warrant that every page will be free of error at every moment. If a page contains a mistake about a fee, a time or a programme, the terms confirmed at registration and the schedule at the desk control.

21. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Current Jiu Jitsu Ltd. against a claim, loss or cost that arises from your deliberate breach of these terms, from your misuse of the mat or the website, or from a false health or identity declaration that you have made. This obligation does not extend to a loss caused by the negligence of the company or its coaches.

A guardian who registers a child agrees to indemnify the company in the same way for a breach connected to the child registration, to the extent the law permits a guardian to do so.

If a claim is made, we will tell you promptly and will give you a reasonable opportunity to respond before we settle a matter that affects you. The indemnity applies only to the part of the loss that your conduct caused.

22. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end a membership where a member repeatedly breaks the conduct rules, trains under the influence, fails to pay a fee after a reminder, misrepresents identity or age, or acts in a way that puts another person at risk. Except in an urgent safety situation, we will give a written reason and an opportunity to respond before ending a membership.

A member may end a membership by giving written notice at the desk or by email to training@currentjiujitsu.lat. Notice takes effect at the end of the paid cycle. Fees already paid for a future cycle are refunded in full if notice is given before that cycle starts.

If a membership is ended by the company for a conduct reason, the unused portion of the current cycle is not refunded. If it is ended by the company for a reason unrelated to conduct, such as a long closure, the unused portion is credited.

24. Changes to services and terms

We may change the schedule, the programme content or these terms when there is a good reason, such as a change in the law, a change in the coaching team, or a change in the way the hall operates. A material change to these terms is announced to active members by email at least fourteen days before it takes effect.

If you do not accept a change, you may end the membership before it takes effect under section 22 and receive a credit for the unused portion of the paid cycle. Continuing to train after the change takes effect confirms acceptance.

The current version of these terms is always available on this page, and the date at the top shows when it was last updated. A copy can be provided at the desk on request.

25. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by discussion will be brought before a court of competent jurisdiction in Ontario, unless a mandatory consumer protection rule in your place of residence gives you a different right.

Before starting a formal step, please raise the matter with us in writing and allow thirty days for a response. Many concerns can be resolved by a conversation about the schedule, a fee or a training pairing, and we would rather solve the issue at the desk than through a court.

If a part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, that part will be read down to the minimum extent needed and the rest of the terms will continue to apply. A delay in enforcing a term is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later.

26. Contact details

Questions about these terms, a booking or a membership should be sent to Current Jiu Jitsu Ltd. at 6800 Kitimat Road, MISSISSAUGA - L5N 5M1, Canada (CA). You can email training@currentjiujitsu.lat or telephone +16813371229 during business hours. The desk is staffed from 06:30 to 21:00 on weekdays and from 09:00 to 14:00 on Saturday.

Please include your membership name and the date of the matter in any written message so that the record can be found quickly. For a cancellation under section 7, a written message sent before the notice deadline is sufficient, and the time it is received is the time we use.

We aim to acknowledge a formal notice within two business days and to provide a substantive response within ten business days. If a matter needs longer, we will send an interim reply with a date for the full answer.
